On Bob Dylan Being Awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2016
The Nobel Prize for Literature should be renamed “the Nobel Prize for Emphysemic Croaking and Adenoidal Wheezing.”

Reminds me of a couple of years back when I took my mum to the supermarket and a Dylan song was playing on the car stereo. Mum said “[I think this young man’s got a problem with his sinuses hasn’t he?]”.
Magic moments.
When I heard this bizarre news, I pictured legion passed-over poets, recoiling in collective horror, hurling quills across poetry caves across the globe, and vowing never to write again!
Vivid, really vivid. D.
Ha ha. I’m gunning to get the prize next year. If Bob can get it I’m a shoe-in
It should’ve been meeeeeeeee!” 😉
😋
Well it served them right for making such a weird choice as he couldn’t even be bothered to pick it up! We are beyond Beowulf and we don’t do literature in ballads anymore!
Ha ha.
It’s like when a celebrity says they’ll go to the prom with the poor dateless kid they saw on youtube … then the kid doesn’t even bother turning up. The ultimate indignation!
“The books don’t work cos the Beowulf took the bookshelf”
Ah what’s the point – it’s just not the same when I try it.
Well, the hobo got too high
But he came to me naturally
He stole my baby
Then he wanted to steal me

Taken as a lyricist, Bob Dylan makes Kurt Cobain look like Dylan Thomas — whoever he was.
he didn’t leave much wiggle room there

Perhaps you should read the quality of the prose and poetry and not the voice. It’s a prize for literature isn’t it? Not singing. Dylan is a genius.
Your are 100% correct! His words have stood the test of time. His impact on culture is unparalleled.
I can’t even imagine that anyone would have been a more appropriate as a choice for Jesus Christ to reveal himself in this age. Dylan has reached the ears of more people than any poet or religious leader.
Fun line. But remember they chose him as a poet, not as a singer (although–shoot me–I like his croaky voice ;>).
BBC Radio 4 had people reading some of his lyrics without music on the day the prize was announced, and with the music stripped away I didn’t think they held up. Obviously, the committee didn’t agree with me.
Well, they sent for the ambulance
And one was sent
Somebody got lucky
But it was an accident

Um. Yeah.

temptest is real good but i like his frank sinatra songers better. you got ta be brilliant to cover the frank sinatra songers.
why dont u love bob
It is maybe because of Dr. Suglia should write: Why you do not love Bob.
Regards.
P.D.
ignoring for a moment his voice, the Nobel is for literature. Dylan is a performer not a writer- voice, way of walking, taking a stage, moving to the music, composing and presenting, pulling an audience. It is my opinion perforrmance is another medium totally, and if they wish to give a Nobel for song-writer/performer, or even songwriter alone, fine with me. The product of a songwriter is music. In literature, music is only a tool. Take the music out of Shakespeare and there is no flow, no careful crafting of consonants and vowels. Take the music from Dylan and you get….?
Emphysemic Croaking and Adenoidal Wheezing…..tee hee hee, and I think even he might agree.
look you cant expect a orange to be a apple. Did you ever say somethin dumb in your life i bet you listen to roxy music or some shit. i bet that roxy music go ooh ooh baby or some shit sometime

I agree it’s an affront to serious writers and literature that they gave Dylan this award
He neither wanted it nor deserved it
He did not attend the ceremony and like a month later finally wrote his acceptance speech which basically explained why his songs are NOT literature
The award should have gone to goldarn Dan Brown or James Patterson or JKRowling ‼️🌈📖🥒🚉
Thank you, Elizabeth, for bringing a measure of sanity and sobriety into an insane and drunken world.
The ironic humor is caught in the rich tapestry of your prose. You have fantastic ability to use language so vividly. Anand Bose from Kerala
Thank you, sir. I appreciate your kind remarks.
